【GMA News】Ghana Type Approval Now Requires Equipment Samples in All Applications
Effective April 2025, the National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana is strictly enforcing Section 9.10 of its Type Approval Guidelines, requiring that a physical sample must be submitted with every Type Approval application. This requirement, originally introduced in 2015, is now being fully implemented for all equipment subject to approval.
In a regulatory shift impacting all telecommunications and wireless equipment approvals, Ghana’s National Communications Authority(NCA) has begun full enforcement of the sample requirement outlined in its Type Approval Guidelines dated May 26, 2015.
What the Regulation Says:
“In all cases of Type Approval, a sample shall be included in the application.”— NCA Type Approval Guidelines, Section 9.10
While this rule has technically existed since 2015, its enforcement had been relatively relaxed — until now. Starting April 2025, all new Type Approval applications must include a physical sample of the product.
What This Means for Applicants:
- Mandatory Sample Submission: Every application must include a working sample of the equipment.
- Delays or Rejections Possible: Missing samples will result in processing delays or outright rejections.
- Applies to All Equipment: Including mobile phones, routers, IoT devices, industrial electronics, etc.
