The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced that IS 18112:2022 – Indian Standard for Digital Television Receivers for Satellite Broadcast Transmission will become mandatory under the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO) effective October 26, 2025.
Under this requirement, all television sets manufactured or imported into India must comply with IS 18112:2022 in addition to the existing safety standard IS 616:2017 / IEC 60065:2014. Existing BIS license holders under IS 616 must update their registrations to include IS 18112:2022 in order to maintain compliance.
Post-Deadline Enforcement
From October 26, 2025, any TV model certified only under IS 616:2017 / IEC 60065:2014 will be deemed non-compliant and may face market restrictions.
Registration and Labeling
Upon update, the BIS license will display both IS 616 and IS 18112:2022 under a single registration number, which must be printed below the Standard Mark on the product label.
Testing Infrastructure
Currently, six BIS-accredited laboratories are authorized to conduct testing under the new IS 18112:2022 standard, providing manufacturers with resources to achieve timely certification.
