Qatar to Phase Out 3G Services by End of 2025
The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of Qatar has announced that all 3G/IMT-2000 mobile services will be discontinued by December 31, 2025. This aligns with Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy 2024–2030, aiming to enhance digital transformation and mobile connectivity.
New Import Requirements – Effective Immediately
All mobile device importers must now submit a signed and stamped declaration from the original manufacturer, explicitly:
- Confirming permanent deactivation of 2G and 3G functionalities.
- Affirming full support for Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology.
Failure to meet these requirements could lead to delays or denial of type approval.

- Prevent outdated technologies from entering the market
- Ensure only advanced, standards-compliant devices are available to consumers
- Improve network performance, speed, and spectrum efficiency
